Saygun Philharmonic Choir performs choral works accompanied by orchestras. We always have room for more choristers to make our voices heard alongside the orchestra! However, our quota for this season's concerts is full. Please follow our social media channels and our website to be informed about new projects and open applications.
If you are interested in joining our choir, please read the conditions at the bottom of this page before applying and make sure that you can comply with them.
To have a healthy voice, vocal training and choral experience at a level to sing with a symphonic orchestra,
Fill in the Application Form for the project with the following information and documents:
Required personal information,
A CV including your experience in music and choir,
A maximum 3-minute sound recording of a piece or a section of a piece that will show the basic characteristics of your voice (In this recording, rather than the level of the work; it is important that it reflects the candidate's vocal range, the way he/she uses his/her voice, technical skills and dominance).
The primary responsibility of choir members is not to the conductor, but to the level of the music and to all choir members who work hard to achieve this level.
It is the right of every member to reach the targeted level. Therefore, each member is responsible to each other at the highest level.
Choir or orchestra conductors are partially representative of these responsibilities. They direct the healthy flow of the process, but mainly they represent the music.
At this point, all the responsibilities mentioned below are meant to reach the targeted level together:
SFK is a unique and original organization in which members from very different backgrounds can perform high-level choral music together. The juxtaposition of differences is a seemingly simple but challenging issue in action. The change of choir members in certain proportions in each project brings innovation as well as the need for adaptation.
Especially the members who have been in the choir since its inception have a high level of experience and maturity in this regard as well as their musical experience. New members are expected to see this structure and adapt at their own pace.
Each member's speed of achieving the desired musical result is different. For this reason, members have to build their work intensity according to their own level. It is the responsibility of the members to come to rehearsals prepared, to do the necessary repetitions and exercises on time, and to ask for help if there are problems they cannot solve on their own.
Rehearsals
Choir members should attend approximately 85-90% of the rehearsals for each project.
Absences and excesses due to compulsory reasons must be discussed with the choir director(s) in advance.
At this point, choir members should be honest with themselves and think about their responsibilities to the whole choir.
If the member cannot make up for the missed rehearsals on his/her own or with help, if he/she cannot foresee the measurement of this in a healthy way, he/she can leave the project.
Due to absenteeism, the member may not be able to harmonize with the members in his/her own party. In such cases, the member may also need to leave the project.
The choir director(s) can always ask members to sing a single or prepare a recording.
Orchestral Rehearsals (OP):
Since these are the most critical rehearsals prior to the concert, only in extreme circumstances can an orchestral rehearsal be missed. This should be considered and discussed with the choir director(s) before applying for the project.
It is the responsibility of each member to maintain silence and focus during the work and to pay attention to what is being worked on.
Being ready 5 minutes before each practice,
Being punctual after breaks,
Paying utmost attention to timing, especially during stage rehearsals, pre-concert and backstage setups,
It is the responsibility of each member to follow the conductor's instructions during all rehearsals with the orchestra.
Members whose musical preparation is not up to date, who have attendance-timing problems or who are not in harmony with the general discipline may be dismissed from the concert upon the general evaluation of the choir conductor or conductors.
SFK is a choir that continues its activities on a voluntary basis. Members who wish to contribute to the organization voluntarily and jointly in the entire functioning of the choir.
